Top 10 Tuesday: Best Books of 2014!

   Hey lovelies,

So, I haven't been very blog-like around here lately considering I've been writing like the wind. But today, I decided to participate in the Top Ten Tuesday created by the awesome bloggers at Broke and Bookish. Why? Because I love talking about books I have read and LOVED. So here we go (in no particular order).

Midnight City by J. Barton Mitchell - Okay, I picked up this book and I wasn't sure what I was expecting. But I can tell you what to expect now. A bunch of awesomeness. This book is so full of adventure and excitement and awesome characters that you will want to keep reading and reading and reading. Seriously, one of my absolute favorite series!

Open Road Summer by Emery Lord - This books cover definitely pulled me in right away, but the writing didn't disappoint. I think it was one of my favorite contemporaries because not only the writing was great, but the characters were so real. Yes, even the famous one. I cannot wait for more from Emery Lord because I know she'll wow me again.

Best Kind of Broken by Chelsea Fine - I adore anything Chelsea write, and this book was no different. This was her first try in NA and I think she nailed it like nobody's business. I loved the characters in this book to pieces and I'm excited to see Chelsea branch out in different genres. When you're good, you're good.

Written in Red by Anne Bishop - If you've been with me for any length of time you know I'm obsessed with this book. This whole series is amazing (I'm reading book 3 now) and I cannot even explain to you why because I will be talking for days. Every single part of this book is outstanding and I cannot get enough of the characters! Seriously, read it if you haven't yet. You won't be disappointed.

The World Without A Future by Nazarea Andrews - I've never read anything by Nazarea until I stumbled into this series and let me tell you, I want to read everything by her now. This series is so good. I love it to pieces. Everything about it is so exciting and thrilling and good. The characters are great and real, the storyline is like a TV show full of action and adventure. Book 3 just came out so you guys have some catching up to do because I highly recommend it.

Sweet Reckoning by Wendy Higgins - Guys, this series. I love each and every book and I was so excited to finally have book 3 in my hands. Wendy does not disappoint. This trilogy is everything you want in a trilogy and more. I love Wendy's writing, her character development, her storytelling. I can't wait to read more books by her. She's definitely one of my favorites!

Drowned by Nichola Reilly - I really didn't think I would like this book as much as I did, because I loved it. The writing was so engaging. I couldn't step away. The concept was interesting enough, but it was the storytelling that really sold it. I'm excited to see what happens next and I wish I could read that book right now.

The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon - I'm sure this book will be on a lot of lists, but I couldn't help adding it to mine. I loved loved this book so much. It's like 500 pages and I almost read it in one sitting. There was just something so special about Samantha's writing and her characters. I had to know what happened next right away and I just sat there, with the book in my hands, when I read the last page. It's hard getting over a good book ending and I definitely had book hangover after reading this one.

Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins - I have been Rachel's fan for some time now and I'm so happy that this book didn't disappoint. In fact, as you can see, it made it to my top ten because I just loved it to pieces. I love the way Rachel writes her characters. Seriously. They're so real and sometimes unlikable and that makes it for a great story. I wasn't a fan of Harper's in the beginning, or David's, really. But by the end of the book, I was routing for both. That's a great story!

The Book of Ivy by Amy Engel - This book is a new favorite. I just read it last week and I couldn't help myself adding it to the top ten. I just loved it so much. It had just enough of adventure and angst to get me through the pages. The writing was so well done and that ending! People, I'm not sure how I'll survive till next November!

Well, that is it for me. I could've kept on going, but these are the ten that popped in my mind. I'm sure I'll be doing another post on some of my favorite books because there are just too many awesome authors out there!
What are some of the books you loved this year? Let me know!

   Much love,

   Blog Tour:

I'll be posting a full schedule once it's all ready to go, but make sure to be on the lookout!

Now, I have a lengthy teaser just for you! Enjoy!

When I finally stop for the night, I'm so exhausted I can't keep my eyes open. I've been riding for two days straight and I know I have to get off the road before I hurt myself, or someone else. More than anything, I want to keep going. Moving keeps me from thinking, and thinking is a dangerous pastime for me.
It's two minutes after midnight, and it's my birthday. Today, I turn seventeen.  For normal people birthdays consist of preparations, invitations, and celebrations. For me, it is another day where I have to fight to survive.
When I was younger, especially after I lost my family, I used to envy kids and their birthday parties. People didn't seem to have a care in the world. I heard laughter, as crowds flooded the yards with bouncy houses and balloons strung up in the front lawn. Kids asked for ponies and video games. They looked for the newest and the most popular. Their parents would get them everything they want, cuddling them in love and material things.
For me, it's different. All I want for my birthday is revenge. It's been my greatest wish for six years.
My birthdays are not like what they used to be. Right now I'm in another crappy hotel room, laying in my bed, and staring at the ceiling. I have money. Actually, I am set for life, Daddy made sure of that, but staying below the radar is easier when you're hiding in the slumps. Nobody looks for a princess among the dirty and the unwanted.
I'm trying not to think about being seventeen-years-old because my mind keeps going back to my tenth birthday party. It was the last time my family and I were truly happy. I remember us living on the outskirts of a small town, right on the edge of the woods. For my birthday party, my parents strung up all kinds of colorful balloons across the trees in the backyard, because they knew how obsessed I was with balloons at that age. It looked magical. I felt like Alice in the Wonderland dressed in my pretty blue dress with bows in my curled hair. My gift that year was a giant stuffed teddy bear. That was also the year I had an obsession with teddy bears and life-size things. I was fascinated by the fact that a toy could be bigger than me, and my family knew it. I loved that toy to pieces and took it with me everywhere until the day I had to leave it behind.
I turn over on my side, my eyes falling to the front window. I can see headlights passing by every few seconds, since the hotel is located right off a busy highway. Usually, I try to not think of my family, but sometimes I can't help it. This trip is filled with flashes of a life that was taken from me. My memories are a trap I can't escape pulling me farther and farther into the abyss of despair. I miss them so much my heart hurts just thinking of their faces. Sometimes all I see are their smiles. Other times I can't rip the image of their lifeless bodies from my mind. I shut my eyes, refusing to let the tears spill. I've cried enough to last me a lifetime.
Tears are worthless.
Tears are weak.
Pain is manageable if there is a purpose to reach.
I have a purpose in life. I will get my revenge on those who took everything from me. That is my gift to self. I let my body relax as much as I can, willing to have a few hours of dreamless sleep. Tonight, I pray there will be no nightmares.
Happy birthday to me.

Much love!
Valia

Teaser Tuesday: Pieces of Revenge!!

   Hey lovelies,

Only 9 more days to go!!!!!!!!  Seriously, time flies when you're having....serious panic attacks and not enough hours in the day to get everything done?
   Anyway.
I'm excited. Hope you are too. Here's a little teaser from Pieces of Revenge!

"Drive!" I yell, jumping inside. There is shouting behind us and definite sound of footsteps. I roll down the window, as Logan pulls out the parking lot. My eyes scan the scene, taking in the three burly men with handguns. They leave the cover of the building behind and race for their car. As soon as I register which one is theirs, I take aim. Loud bangs echo inside our car as my gun discharges.
      One.
      Two.
      Three.

Well? Are you ready to read Pieces of Revenge yet, or what?? f

Armed with combat skills and a beyond perfect memory, she heads to Chicago to uncover the answers to question that plagued her for years.

After arriving in the city, she meets Logan, a boy from her past who changes all the rules. She doesn't remember, but he remembers her. His position at Kallos Enterprises is useful, his presence is unnerving, and he makes her question everything she knows about herself to be true. If her perfect memory can't remember Logan, what else about her past is wrong?

Time is running out. Anastasia has nowhere to turn, but to trust the one person who's a memory she should have, but doesn't.
