I've been asked the questions, now it's time for the answers!
Frequently Asked Questions
1. You write books?
Why, yes. Yes, I do. Amazing, isn't it?
2. How long does it take to write a book?
This is complicated questions because it is never the same amount of time for me. The last book I wrote took me a month (a personal best, I have to say). However, the books before that took up to a year. I'm learning what works and what doesn't when it comes to my writing, and as I grow as a writer, so does my writing process. I do like it when it only takes a month :)
3. Where do you get your ideas?
Everywhere. Seriously. I can get inspired by the strangest things. An overheard conversation. A commercial. A quote. A drive. The weather outside. Something stands out and a scene builds in my head and then BAM! I have a starting point and a book to write.
4. How many books have you written?
As of the month of July 2014, I have finished seven novels. If you ask how many I've started (and have made about halfway through), I'm probably at fifteen or twenty, but I refuse to count.
5. What are you working on right now?
What am I not working on right now? Top three things on the list: I'm in revision mode for my YA Thriller. I'm writing a Sci/Fi YA and I'm starting another YA contemporary. Yes, I can't ever just work on one thing at a time.
6. What is the BEST advice you can give an aspiring author?
As cliche as it may sound, read and write all the time. I'm a hands on learner, so I need to write in order to become better and I believe that's true for others. Read books of every genre. Write in every genre. Find what works for you. Never be afraid to take chances because you might find your niche in something unexpected.
7. Who creates your covers?
The fantastic and talented Regina at Mae I Designs http://www.maeidesign.com/
8. Do you have an editor?
Yes! The super amazing Leah Clifford http://leahclifford.wordpress.com/critique-services/
9. Do you have an agent?
Not yet! But I'm still quering, because one day, I believe I will.
10. Traditional or self-publishing?
This is a question that's been asked a lot. Especially lately. So to put my two cents in, BOTH. You find what works for you, you WORK your butt off following your dreams, and you will be successful. I never imagined myself brave enough to try self-publishing, but here I am. Do I eventually want to publish with a traditional publisher? Of course. But I won't give up self-publishing because I believe it works for me too. Basically, follow your dreams, work hard, and find what works for you. I believe in you!
These are just some of the questions people tend to ask me. If you have any other questions, leave me a comment below and I'll answer them!
Much love!
