What's Going On in 2015?

   Hello lovelies,

So here we are. It's officially three days into 2015 and it still feels unreal. (It's also my birthday month so there's that). But anyway, I thought I'd take a minute and just do an overview of my year for you. Here's the thing. I'm not big on resolutions and such, but I am big on goals. Especially writing and reading goals. I always try to push myself a little bit farther, and last year I definitely did that by publishing 3 books. 3 BOOKS! That's insane (at least to me). But this year, I want to do better. Not just for myself, but for my readers.

Now, this is just a tentative list of goals and ideas of goals. Not all of these will be met, but that is okay. I shall try.

   Reading:

       100 books!

I failed last year by only reading 86. Writing more books this year it will be harder for me to read more, but I shall try.

   Writing:

Falling, Book 3 - yes, you all have been patiently waiting for Jackson's story and it will happen this year.

Titanium, Book 2 - this one will probably be the first one to be published, but that still won't be till a bit later.

Titanium, Book 3 - right now, it's a trilogy. So book 3 should be out by the end of the year.

New UF YA series, Book 1 - I have a huge plan for this new series and I will have, at least, information on it by the middle of the year.

Holy Batman and Robin, right?
  Art/Photography:

I will be posting a lot more artwork and photos this year, because I want to be better at documenting my life through pictures.

Well, I think that's it. At least for now. I have some other goals as well, but these are my priority, so it's the ones I'm sharing with you.

I might later on tho...
Before I go, I wanted to take a moment and thank each and every single one of you who have supported me this last year (and years before). You are what allows me to continue on this journey and I am truly blessed to have such awesome fans!

I would to hear what you have planned for this year, so let me know!

   Happy New Year!

   Much love,
   Valia

Brooklynn and Grayson's Christmas Story!

   Hey lovelies,

Merry Christmas!!! Today, I have a special gift just for you! All of your favorites from my Falling Series are making a cameo in the Christmas story below. I wanted to say thank you to everyone who's read my books this year and allowed me to share their stories with you!
   Merry Christmas!

“Chance, I swear, if you don’t get your butt over here in the next hour, we’re eating without you.” Dakota rolls her eyes in my direction, before walking into the other room with her phone. They’ve been together for less than six months and I’m happy to report that they haven’t changed a bit. They still fight more than they discuss things calmly and I can’t say I’m complaining. It’s nice to know that some things do stay the same.
I make my way to the kitchen, making sure the food hasn’t burned down. Even though Chance’s dad is in charge, I like to double check. That will never change either.
“Brooklynn, is your family on the way yet?” Mr. Monroe asks me, not looking away from chopping up the onions. As soon as I take a whiff of the vegetable, I stop in the doorway. Mr. Monroe looks up at me, and I shrug a little.
“I’m not sure, I need to give them a call. I’m going to go do that. In the other room.” Before he can ask anything else, I escape. My eyes are already starting to water.  Dakota is still on the phone with Chance in the living room, so I find a quiet place in the back patio and dial my parents.
“Hey honey,” Mom answers as if she’s expecting a call. Which, granted, is not that far fetched. “We’re on our way. Your father had to stop at the store.”
“No problem, Mom. No one else is here yet. Drive safe.”
Ever since the summer before college, my parents and I have been working on our communication. I know Dad still worries about my career choices, but he’s definitely doing better in keeping an open mind on the matter. I can’t really ask for more than that. I just wish my sister could’ve made it to the festivities, but she’s off on some business trip. She’s a lot more supportive now, than she’s ever been before. Which makes me happy, but it also makes me miss her that much more.
I don’t hear the door behind me slide open, but then arms circle me from behind and I know my boyfriend has arrived. I turn my head, just slightly, to smile up at his handsome face.
“I knew I’d find you out here. I heard Dakota giving Chance a hard time in the other room.” Grayson hugs me closer, and I lean farther back into his arms. No matter how much time we spend together, there’s always that new thrill of being in his presence. I pray I never get over that feeling. He entwines our fingers on my waist as I lean my forehead against his neck, snuggling closer.
“You know how much Dakota needs her drama.” I murmur into his skin. “But actually, I had to make a call.”
“And escape Mr. Monroe’s famous onions.” Grayson adds knowingly. I chuckle at his tone, and at the fact of how well he knows me. Chance’s dad has a tendency to smother anything he cooks in with onions, which makes me bawl like a child on Christmas morning.
“I love anything he makes. I just don’t love the process.”
Grayson places a small kiss on my forehead, squeezing me tighter against him. Even though we go to the same school, we don’t spend as much time together as we’d like. With both of our class loads full, and Grayson picking up various photography jobs, it seems like we’re always on the run. Standing here, in his arms, it’s nice to know that no matter how busy we get, we still have each other.
“While I’d love to stay out here with you forever, there’s another boy who’s begging for your attention.” Grayson turns us toward the door and I notice Noah leaning against the glass, waiting for his turn. I laugh, stepping out of Grayson’s arms and beckon for the little boy. Noah doesn’t need much of an invitation.
“I thought you’d never stop being all gross.” He almost shouts, yanking the sliding door open and launching himself into my open arms. I hold him close, giving his unruly hair a small kiss. He wiggles from under all the love, grabbing for my hand. I reach my other hand back, letting Grayson’s fingers entwine with mine, before we’re both pulled inside.
“Did you see the Christmas tree Chance got?” Noah exclaims, pulling me past his dad. I give him a small kiss on the cheek, before we continue our journey to the tree. Dakota is in there and so is Chance.
“Cosmopolitan!” He shouts, grabbing me around the waist and lifting me high in the air. I squeal, as my hands are still attached to the two Banks boys, before being lowered back down. “Now the party can finally start, now that I’m here.”
Surprisingly, Dakota doesn’t comment on that, just weaves her hand through the crook of Chance’s arm as he pulls her closer. Now that her boyfriend is here, she’s all mush and I love seeing my best friend so happy. I hear noises from the front of the house as my parents are greeted by Chance’s dad. In the next moment, they’re all in the room with us and I tug Grayson away from the middle of the commotion. We move over, standing by the tree, my arms wrapped around his waist, his wrapped around my shoulders.
Our families greet each other, shouting and laughing, as they normally do as Grayson and I take it all in. I can’t help feeling so blessed. Last year at this time, I wasn’t this blissfully happy. I was confused and nervous. But now, as I stand next to my handsome boyfriend, watching our families interact, I can’t help but thank God for all that He’s done in my life.
Grayson takes a few steps back, shielding us from the onlookers by the giant tree Monroe’s always insist on getting.
“How are we feeling, Ms Summers?” he whispers against my hair.
“Loved and blessed, Mr. Banks.” I reply.
“Merry Christmas, Brooklynn.” He doesn’t give me a chance to reply, as his lips find mine and I get lost in the taste and feel of him. He pulls me closer still and I’m just as excited today as I was months ago to know that he’s mine. I could stay like this forever.
It’s the jeers and cheers from the family that finally breaks us apart. I guess the tree wasn’t much of a cover.

New books!!! New books are coming!!!

   Hello there lovelies,

How is everyone doing? Anything exciting going on in your lives? Did you notice that it's the second day of October? Seriously, where has the year gone?
Okay okay. I know you're not here to talk about random stuff. I'm just being mean. :)

   Anyway.

   DID YOU SEE THAT TITLE??

I know I've been hinting on some big things happening in Valia Universe and here we finally are!

You may be asking yourself: BOOKS? as in PLURAL?

THAT'S RIGHT!!!! And you won't even have to wait that long!!

I HAVE TWO BOOKS COMING OUT IN THE NEXT 5 MONTHS!!!!! *HAPPY DANCE*

First, there's a new series in the works. Anyone here likes YA Thrillers? Science Fiction? Kick butt heroines? Well, you get ALL of that!
That's right. Soon and very soon, you will have, in your little hands a YA heroine kicking butt in a thriller/sci fi adventure!

Guys, I'm so stinking excited about this book. I can't even tell you just how excited I am. But you can tell, a little, by this wonderful Supernatural gif :)

Now, onto the other book. A lot of you have been asking me this particular question and I'm glad that I finally have an answer for you.

YES. THERE WILL BE BOOK 3 IN THE FALLING SERIES.

I can't tell you much about the book, but I can tell you that it follows a certain character from Edge of Falling who's been getting a lot of love.

And yes, I'm talking about Jackson.

I'm super excited to be writing his story and I hope you're just as excited to read it!

Well, do you think that's enough news for one day? I think that's enough news for one day. Now, I have to get back to work! (SO MUCH work). I leave you with this pretty face. Enjoy :)

   Much love,

   Valia

Get to know Laura Darrell, the Narrator for Falling by Design Audiobook! (Plus a GIVEAWAY)

   Hey lovelies,

So today I'm super excited to have Laura Darrell on the blog talking about her work! I LOVED having her read Falling by Design!!! Once I heard her audition, I couldn't wait for the rest of the book. I asked her if she'd be willing to answer a few questions for us and she said YES! Stick around till the end of the post! There's a giveaway :) Now, onto the questions.

   1. Hi. Tell us a little about yourself.

So I'm a professional actress, voice-over artist, and audiobook narrator, living in NYC, although I also have a base in Los Angeles. I was born and raised in a small town outside of Portland, Maine. I split my undergrad between Tisch, NYU and USC in LA. I love traveling, food (all cuisines), reading, and I'm also transitioning into being a vegetarian!

   2. What got you into voice acting?

I got into audiobook narrating through a voice and speech teacher of mine at Tisch, NYU who thought it would be a good fit for me; I think because I have very clear diction and I love reading.  Haha:) She recommended me to Audible and the rest is history!

   3. What is your favorite part about your job?

Well, I suppose I can't reiterate it enough but I think my favorite part of it is that I love reading and I love talking! Hah! I'm happiest when I'm lost in a good story. I used to read children's books aloud to younger kids in lower grades in grade school as part of a reading program setup there and I really enjoyed it. There's something really freeing about setting up camp in a dark booth and only being able to use your voice to tell a story. It's a lot of fun.

   4. What is the hardest part about your job?

One of the hardest parts is that you have to somehow vocally distinguish many, many characters and you only have one voice! So you really have to explore your entire range, accents, pace/speed, and various speech patterns that you can use to distinguish 15-30 characters.

   5. Are there any actors who inspire you?

I really love Cate Blanchett, Kathy Bates, Glen Close, Cherry Jones...For guys I like Michael C Hall, Sean Astin, Leonardo Dicaprio, Daniel Day Lewis, Tom Hanks...

   6. Any funny anecdotes about your job you can share?

Funny anecdote...Well the microphone in most recording studios is very sensitive so let's just say any little noise, intentional or not, gets magnified pretty intensely in there; makes for some good times with the engineer! Hah!

   7. What was the best part about recording Falling by Design?

I love your voice as a writer and the dry, sarcastic humor that I found throughout. It was a fun, easy read that flew by. The characters made me laugh a lot.

   8. How did you prepare for the job?

Preparation usually involves reading the book as many times as I can and then highlighting the different characters so I can really differentiate them in my mind and start assigning vocal choices to them. I make sure I'm hydrated, I'm wearing comfortable clothing, and then I do the work!

   9. Any other interesting tidbit about you or you job you'd like to share?

Well, I really enjoyed working on your book and I hope people love it as much as I did! If people want to follow me I can be found on facebook.com/thelauradarrell or twitter.com/lauradarrell or my website is www.lauradarrell.com! Till the next time!

4 Days and Counting!!!!

   Hello lovelies,

So, I felt like blogging today. I know, shocker right?

As you can tell by the title of this blog, I'm counting the days till EDGE OF FALLING hits the retailers everywhere. Am I nervous? YES. Am I excited? DOUBLE YES. Am I more nervous than excited? TRIPLE YES.

Which is okay. It's normal. I don't think that fear will ever actually go away.

I mean, you work your heart out, writing these characters, telling their stories and then, poof. They're out in the world, they're telling their own story and people will like it and people will hate it.

That's the thing about being an author, you have to write for yourself. If you write your stories from the heart, if you tell them like your characters want you to tell them, then you'll be satisfied.

I loved getting to know Chance and Dakota better in this book. I loved seeing them grow as individuals, learn what it means to be an adult, learn what it means to be there for each other. I don't know if people will love their story as much as I loved writing it. I can't predict the skies opening up and the sunshine of love and appreciation raining down on me and my books (Well, I can predict sunshine. It's Arizona after all).  But what I can predict is the sense of satisfaction.

Yes, I wrote this book for my readers. But I also wrote this book for myself and for Chance and Dakota. And if I know anything, I know they would be very proud of the way I told their story.

So, will I continue to freak out? OH MOST DEFINITELY. But that's alright. It's just part of the process.

And don't worry, even with all the freaking out, I will keep writing. If you keep buying my books. I know there's a bunch of controversy going on about Amazon and such, but I hope that you will still buy my books. I really really would LOVE to keep writing them for you :) You have been such an amazing support so far and I cannot tell you how much I appreciate it!

   Much love,

   Valia

"You can't promise dogs not biting. They're dogs. They'll bite if they want to." His laugh rings out once more and I try to suppress the shivers that tumble over each other as they spread over my whole body. If I don't get a hold of myself, I'm going to have to smack my face against the wall or something. Stupid hormones.
"Dakota, please tell me you're not afraid of puppies."
"I am NOT afraid of puppies. I'm simply stating a fact. You can't predict how an animal will act."
"Oh,  you are so afraid of puppies."

We stand frozen, studying each other in that new way of ours. I'm trying to figure out what to say, how to put him back into that special place I keep locked up inside of me. Suddenly, I'm hot from my hike, my clothes sticking to my body at my back. I can tell he wants to ask what's going on with me. He's so good at reading my moods. He's waiting for me to say something, anything, so I go for the one thing I know will put us back on even footing.
"Did you jus squeak?" I ask, letting my eyes squint in contemplation.
He stands up straighter, offended. "I'm a man. We don't make those kind of noises."

Awe. I do love me some Chance and Dakota feels. How about you? Leave me a comment telling me what you think!

And here's a teaser picture to tie you over as well :)

Speaking of sharing, did you see the heading for this post? That's right, there are ARCs of Edge of Falling and you could be one of the first to read it!!! Que excitement.

I'm very excited and nervous to share Dakota and Chance's story with you, just because I feel like it's a bit different from Falling by Design. Which it should be. Since Dakota and Chance are NOT Brooklynn and Grayson.

But ANYWAY. If you're interested in reading Edge of Falling (you do NOT have to read Falling by Design first, since this is a companion novel), sign up below!

Thank you, thank you, to all of you who will sign up and to all of you who have been so supportive. I'm so excited I FINALLY have books for you!!!

Now, if you're excited, RAISE YOUR HAND! (Comment below. I want to "see" those hands)

   Much love,

   Valia

Are you ready to find out what that is?

   How about now?

   Now?

Okay okay :) The title for book two is EDGE OF FALLING

What do you think? You like? I like. Actually, I LOVE.

AND you can add it on Goodreads now!

Road Trip Wednesday: WIP Playlist!

   Hello lovelies,

So since I didn't post a teaser yesterday, I decided to participate in Road Trip Wednesday. I know, it's been a while.

This week's topic is: Share a song from your writing playlist.

Oh, so many songs to pick from! I love the playlist for this book and I hope you will too. Because I can't pick just one, you get two.

My friend shared this song with me and I knew, instantly, that this was going on my playlist. I can picture Chance singing this to Dakota. She might punch him in the face for it, but he'd sing it anyway. :)

This one has more of a Dakota feel about it. She's definitely a stubborn one.

What do you think? Are you excited for Falling 2?

If you're writing, let me know what's on your playlist!

   Much love,

   Valia

Teaser Tuesday: Chance & Dakota (plus pictures)

Hey lovelies,

Look at me, putting up a Teaser Tuesday on a Tuesday. I can't believe how fast June has gone by. We're already a month closer to the release of book two! AH!
  *runs around screaming*
Anyway, enough of the freaking out. Today we have a little glimpse of Chance and Dakota. I also have a few pictures I found on Pinterest that kind of inspires. Enjoy!

"Chance, you're doing the weird staring thing again. Is there something on my face?"
"No, sorry. Your hair is all over the place." Her hands reach for her locks automatically, a tiny blush of embarrassment on her cheeks. She tries to tame the mess, smoothing it out a little bit frantically. I surprise myself when I grab her hand, stilling the movement.
"It looks great. Don't worry." I run my hand over her hair, distracted by the softness under my fingertips. When my eyes meet hers, there's not much room between us.

I can totally see these two here. Although, they're not there just yet :)
So sweet :)

What do you think? Are you excited? I'm excited! :)

   Much love,

   Valia

Friday Teaser!

   Hey lovelies,

Sorry I missed this weeks Tuesday Teaser! Things are happening and things are terrifying. But good things. I'll be sharing those things soon, but for now, here is some goodness from Falling Book Two. Meet Jackson. Dakota's adorable brother. Enjoy!

"Anything exciting going on at school today?" I ask, taking a soothing sip of my coffee. Or nectar of life. Whichever name works.
"Nope. Just the regular, boring stuff." Even after all these years, I still wish he was going to the same high school as me. But the year he was supposed to test, he was incredibly sick and didn't make the deadline. After that, the school closed admissions for a year and by then it was too late.
"Did you get your math book from the living room?"
"Yes, Mother dearest. I have all my books and homework and lunch money."
"Don't let them bullies take that away from you, you hear?" He rolls his eyes, because I say this almost every morning. I don't care. He just gets to deal. Although at almost six feet, with a body of a football player, my little brother can more than take care of himself. Doesn't stop me from worrying. We tease each other relentlessly, but before I leave, I always make sure to tell him I love him.
Because you really should hear those words from someone in your life every day.

Are you excited for book 2? Because I'm excited for book 2!

   Much love,

   Valia

Teaser Tuesday & Gift Card Giveaway: Falling #2

   Hello there lovelies,

I know, I know. It’s been a while. But I decided I wanted to bring back Teaser Tuesday for all of you wonderful people!
I am deep in the revision cave, trying to make this book awesome and amazing (while working on a few other things for you). Chance and Dakota are such different characters from Brooklynn and Grayson. Their story took me by surprise, but I love them too much not to write it the way they want me to write it. Anyway, without any farther delay, here’s some Chance and Grayson for you!

“I didn’t know he was coming,” my friend states, after a few moments of silence. I grab some cups, putting them on the counter in between us before I say anything.
“I just don’t get it, Gray. I should be used it.”
“It’s never easy watching someone you care about in someone else’s arms.”
“Please don’t get all poetic on me. It sucks okay? It freakishly sucks and I want to punch a wall.” I lean against the island, my knuckles white where they’re holding onto the side of the granite. I’m so much better at controlling myself than this. What is wrong with me?
“Hey, you’re the writer around here. I thought you’d appreciate my eloquently put words.” He grins broadly, completely proud of himself and I grunt in response.
“Shut up.” This makes him grin even bigger, but whatever. He can laugh at me all he wants. I remember just mere months ago he was the one walking around moping like a school girl with a crush, and I tell him so.
“Yes, that’s true. Which is why I totally forgive you for being annoying.”
“Seriously, man. Shut up.” He’s laughing outright now and I have an urge to punch him in the face just to shut him up. I’m really losing it, ain’t I? I don’t realize I ask the question aloud until Grayson stops dialing and looks up at me with a serious look in his eyes.
“It’s understandable. You’re not the first guy to lose it over a girl.”
“No, but I’m probably the only guy who’s still losing it over a girl who’ve rejected him for seven years straight.”
“Hey, at least you’re committed.”
“Or need to be committed,” I grunt under my breath.

Awe, my poor Chance.
So, while I’m deep in my revision cave, I have not forgotten about you.
Comment below for a chance to win a $5 Amazon Gift Card!
Tell me what you think of the teaser, or Chance, or Dakota, or if you’re reading something interesting! I’ll pick winners at the end of the week.
Hugs and smooches,
Valia

BOOK 2 Questions Answered!!!!

   Hey lovelies,

Okay, I know you've all been waiting to hear things about book two. Some of you have asked, some of you have hinted, and I just vaguely smiled and waved at you passing by. I'm SORRY! Really, I am. I hate keeping things from you, but you know how it is. Waiting and hoping and wishing is just part of this crazy world.

   Well, the wait is OVER!

Because I can finally answer that burning question on everyone's mind who have read and loved Brooklynn and Grayson's story.
   Drum roll please...

Okay, I am torturing you for no reason.

YES! THERE WILL BE BOOK TWO!!!!

   *Throws confetti*

But WAIT!!! It's not a sequel. It is a COMPANION NOVEL.

Book Two is about Chance and Dakota. AH!!! *Happy Dance*

A lot of you have said how much you loved Brooklynn's friends and now you will get to know them better and hopefully, love them even MORE.
And don't worry, there's still plenty of Brooklynn and Grayson in book two.
This book is SO MUCH fun to write, but it's definitely different from Falling by Design. The first book concentrated on following your dreams and fighting for what your heart desires. Well, book two takes the other side of things.

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOUR HEART WANTS? What if you don't know what your goals and dreams are? What if life throws rocks your way and you have no idea how to deal?

I know it may not be what you would expect, but I promise you, the book is still true to the first one in all its sweet and heartbreaking moments. I hope it will be just as big of an encouragement to you as the first one.
Make sure you follow me on all the social media because I have MORE news to share with you in the future. I'll also be posting teasers and giveaways, so keep your eyes out!

I heart you all to pieces!
